GOVERNANCE
Quality assurance and good internal and external governance are critical for long-term sustainability.
Our charter of good governance helps us to comply with Vlerick’s mission, vision, designation and core values. It’s three key principles are transparency, accountability and integrity.
We are committed to two strategic governance KPIs:
- To be recognised by independent assessors as a sustainable organisation
- To be recognised by our colleagues for good governance in the annual Great Place to Work® survey
Legal status
Vlerick is an autonomous business school. We have two partner universities – KU Leuven and Ghent University. The Flemish government recognised our independent status in 1999. Legally, we are a “Public Utility Foundation”. Our purpose is described as: “Providing post-initial education, scientific research, and scientific service in the area of management development.”
Governance structure and strategic oversight
We have three levels of governance and strategic oversight – as set out in the diagram below.
“
We regularly review and evaluate our governance structures, practices, and performance to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with our mission and vision. We do this following the applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards.”
— Patrick De Greve, General Director, Vlerick Business School
External oversight
Our external auditor is EY. On behalf of the General Council and the Board of Directors, they carry out a full, in-depth audit of our finances every year.
We also have an independent audit committee, which is made up of external members of our Board of Directors.
