OUR APPROACH TO RESEARCH
Our research strategy
Rigour, relevance, reach & responsibility are the four principles that characterise our research strategy.
Our rigour makes our research credible. We’re rigorous in our use of academic models, in our accuracy, our doctoral work and in work that’s published in academic journals. This rigour sets us apart from consulting companies and from other business educators.
We make the results of our research as accessible as possible, communicating and sharing it effectively with business and society. We support the Open Science movement.
Our research starts with real, substantiated challenges faced by business and society. And it results in real, actionable solutions that make a tangible impact.
Our research is conducted to the highest ethical standards – and its effects impact society positively.
Interdisciplinary research
Today’s sustainability challenges are complex and interconnected. It’s therefore essential that we join forces with:
- Different teams and disciplines across Vlerick
- External international faculty
- Faculty from our parent universities in Ghent and Leuven
To integrate this knowledge into our teaching, we create tools, business games and simulations to make academic findings accessible and actionable. And we instil in our students the need for sound academic practice – making critical reflection and business research methodology core to their projects.
“
The Vlerick charter for good academic practice was co-created with the Vlerick research community. Its aim is to make sure that our research strategy is widely adopted and supported within the school.
It sets out the ways we work to produce credible research. It safeguards our robust academic practices and provides a framework for academic integrity and ethics. All faculty, researchers, and DBA participants sign our charter and commit to its principles of sound academic conduct.”
